This chilli has a strange appearance with up to 4 wings which gives it a bell-like shape. Because of the winged nature of the fruit, there is little heat in the extremities where there is little to no placenta tissue. The placenta is the white pithy membrane that the seeds are attached to.
The fruits ripen from green to yellow/orange and finally to red and is quite crunchy which makes it perfect for salads.
The plants will need supporting especially when they start setting fruits. They are best grown in the ground or in large 10 to 15 litre pots.
Heat level: medium, approximately 10,000 to 15,000 SHUs. Learn about Scoville Heat Units (SHUs) here.
