This plant produces striking fruits with a beautiful variegated patten of yellow, orange and red. The plant is productive and produces an abundance of long cylindrical fruits, tapering to a point with various folds and kinks. Great for grilling and usually used fresh in salads.

The original Sugar Rush was first developed by Finnish breeder Jukka Kilpinen (Fatalii) and this Sugar Rush Stripey variant was bred by UK chilli breeder Chris Fowler. The variety is generally stable, but can still produce some pods without stripes.

Note that this is a hybrid created by chilli enthusiasts. And as with many new hybrids, there is a chance that the strain isn't fully stable. So there is a chance you may end up with a plant that is a bit different from the original, either in plant habit or fruit characteristics. But this is the exciting part of growing new weird and wonderful varieties that the chilli breeding community produces.

Heat level: Approx. 20,000 SHUs. Learn about Scoville Heat Units (SHUs) here.

Harvest: Starts fruiting about 90 days from potting on as seedlings and under good growing conditions. Pick when the fruits have reached their maximum size. Fruits ripen from lime green to yellow.

Size: Plants can reach up to 40cm tall.

Capsicum baccatum

Growers Guide

These chilli seedlings respond well to extra warmth as young plants; 25°C is the ideal temperature.

The plants can be grown in pots or directly in the ground. Pots should be at least 2 litres, but 5 liters and is preferred.

You can download the growing instructions that are sent out with the seedlings here.

Seedlings will need to be potted on. We recommend using Fertile Fibre peat-free compost. We use this product ourselves and found that it has the best properties compared to all the other peat-free composts currently available. Note that any additional items bought together with pre-order seedlings will be shipped at the same time as the seedlings when they are ready which is normally from March to May.
