The Bhut Jolokia was the first chilli to be measured at over 1 million Scoville units - the first of the 'super' chillies. At that heat rating, they are 4 times hotter than the average Habanero or Scotch Bonnet. As well as a fierce heat, they also have a very distinctive fruity taste. The heat does not explode straight away but builds slowly to a great intensity which lingers for longer than usual.

Storage

Fresh chillies keep for a couple of weeks in the fridge. All chillies freeze well and slicing and pickling is another way to preserve chillies.

MY FAVOURITE CHILLI

The Bhut Jolokia is my all time favourite variety of chilli.
The reason for this is the level of heat and flavour I think is perfect for cooking and adding to sausage meat to make a delicious square sausage.
I have purchased this variety from S.D.C.F for a number of years now and I have never been disappointed.

Having used Carolina Reapers for years I thought |I would try something different for a change. The Bhut Jolokia chilies were very hot, tasty and excellent and I highly recommend them to all that like a lot of heat in their cooking
