The Piment d’Espelette Chilli Plant is a famous French Basque chilli, prized for its distinctive fruity flavour, gentle warmth and deep red fruits. Traditionally grown around the village of Espelette in the French Basque Country, this variety is particularly valued as a culinary pepper rather than simply for its heat.

The fruits mature from green to a rich, vibrant red and can be used fresh, dried or ground into the famous Piment d’Espelette pepper powder. With its excellent balance of flavour and mild-to-moderate heat, it is a fantastic choice for cooks looking to grow something a little different.

For the best results, grow your Piment d’Espelette Chilli Plant in a warm, sunny and sheltered position. It can be grown successfully in containers, on patios or in a greenhouse, with protection from cool winds and poor weather particularly beneficial in the UK.

Plant into a good-quality, free-draining compost and water regularly during active growth without allowing the compost to become waterlogged. Once flowering and fruiting begins, feed regularly with a high-potash fertiliser to encourage a strong crop.

Allow the fruits to remain on the plant until they develop their characteristic deep red colour. Growing under glass can provide the extra warmth needed to achieve good ripening during the UK growing season.

Pot Plant Packaging

Plants are sent in 1Ltr (13cm) pots. Each plant is securely packaged in a recyclable cardboard box. The pot is wrapped in a biodegradable plastic bag to prevent any moisture from damaging the cardboard box any soil from falling out.

Each plant is hand selected by our horticulturists and carefully packaged. The box is marked with a way up sticker to notify the courier and handlers that it contains live plant material and that it should be handled with care.
