Grow your own Jamaican Red Mushroom chillies from seed, a traditional Jamaican variety with a similar heat level and flavour profile to Scotch Bonnet. The fruits are distinctive, with a consistent mushroom or flying-saucer shape, ripening from green to bright red.
As a Habanero-type chilli, Jamaican Red Mushroom plants can grow quite large and produce a good crop of fruits, which mature and ripen towards late summer. Plants may need supporting once they become laden with chillies.
While these should be red and are collected from netted plants, we do occasionally find that there is occasionally a yellow phenotype that emerges.
Jamaican Red Mushroom can be grown in pots or directly in the ground, with a minimum pot size of 2 litres recommended.
