The first 'Super' chilli! The Bhut Jolokia (A.k.a. Naga Jolokia or Ghost) was officially measured at over one million Scoville Heat Units (SHU) in 2006. Being three times hotter than an Orange Habanero, our suggestion for cooking with these chillies is to use a small amount, very finely chopped. As a rough guide, try ¼ of a pod per person for a hot dish.

Growing very slowly

We got a selection of chilies. This was one of them. Seeded in the windowsill, this was hard to start only 2 were successful Now 4 months later with them in the greenhouse and on sunny days out in the garden are there just chili's growing Normal plant, just hoping we can harvest them. The purple pumpkin however was very productive and ripens very quickly. Is also very hot and similar size plant, but easy to grow. Our Pakistani neighbours love them but do warn us about the heat. It keeps the heat when cooling, I. Contrast to the prairy fire which is a compact pretty plant with lots of little chilies, the one red one we had was extremely hot but after cooking the heat disappeared. I am most excited about the erotico but these although containing a good amount of chilies per plant are still green. The green sri lanka is the same but a little more compact. As last we have a coffee chilies, grows well but again not yet colouring,

Bhut Jolokia

Disappointed. Bought 4 x sets of different seeds. All with same soil and same heat mat. Apaches were extremely successful, orange habenero were 50% successful but the bhut jolokia only 1/20 germinated. I'll try again but if it doesn't work a second time then clearly there is an issue!
