Barker’s Hot, also known as NuMex Barker’s Hot, is a vigorous New Mexico variety of Capsicum annuum and one of the hottest of the NuMex/Hatch-type chillies. It produces abundant, elongated pods that mature from green to red, making it an excellent choice for growers looking for a substantial chilli with plenty of heat and excellent culinary versatility.

🌶️ Hot New Mexico variety – A particularly hot member of the NuMex/Hatch chilli group.


🇺🇸 New Mexico heritage – Originating from the USA, this variety is associated with the famous Hatch-style chilli tradition.


🌱 Species: Capsicum annuum.


🔥 Good level of heat – Commonly listed in the region of 9,000–10,000 SHU, although reported heat can vary with growing conditions and maturity.


🌶️ Long, substantial pods – Fruits typically reach around 12–18cm (5–7 inches) long and 2.5–5cm wide.


🟢➡️🔴 Green to red – Can be harvested green or left on the plant to mature to red.


🍃 Medium-thick flesh – Gives the fruits a satisfying texture and makes them particularly useful for cooking.


🪴 Compact plants – Plants typically reach around 45–60cm (18–24 inches), making them suitable for containers as well as greenhouse growing.

Pot Plant Packaging

Plants are sent in 1Ltr (13cm) pots. Each plant is securely packaged in a recyclable cardboard box. The pot is wrapped in a biodegradable plastic bag to prevent any moisture from damaging the cardboard box any soil from falling out.
